THE TABLE is an ambitious performance project (planned production 2026) which asks: who gets a seat at the table (and who notices who doesn’t)? And, once we’re there, what shall we do – talk, eat, keep others out or let them in, lay our cards out, or get on it and dance and turn things upside down…
Building upon our acclaimed 2019 collaboration We Are All Just Little Creatures, Curious Seed and Lung Ha Theatre Company (in association with Lyra) joined together again in November/December 2023 to begin the first of two research and development periods for a new performance work entitled The Table. During this creative residency supported by Dance Base Scotland, we explored questions inspiring this new work using movement, text, music and design.
The second phase of research and development took place in December 2024, once again supported through creative residencies with Dance Base and Lyra. We were able to delve deeper into the devising process through further exploration of the themes, ideas and artistic concepts. Over these two weeks in collaboration with the creative team, we began to evolve a more specific materialistic language for the work; physical, textual, musical, and imagistic. We also began to consider how a company of young artists from Lyra will contribute to the creation of the work.
Led by Christine Devaney, the creative team for the 2024 residency included the Lung Ha company of actors, David Paul Jones, Karen Tennent, Andrew Gardiner, Sky Su, Maria Oller, Jo Timmins, Yvonne Buskie, Luci Holland and Emery Hunter (as access consultant).
The Table is being developed with support from Creative Scotland Lyra Dance Base. Special thanks also to Grid Iron and the production department at Royal Lyceum Theatre and SNC Productions.
